A small update to the Flash Image Scroller: a new arrowColor option has been added to let you change the default colour of the arrows in the left and right nav links. This is fully backward compatible: the default colour will continue to be white, but now you can override it if you wish.
Also, the zipfile now includes an updated version of Geoff Stearns’ swfobject script (which handles the importing of the Flash into your webpages). This includes a few bug fixes and updates.
I’ve just updated the PHP Validation script to version 2.3, to match the latest features in the JS Validation sister script.
The new features are:
- a new custom_alpha validation rule, which lets you validate strings according to extremely specific criteria. You can specify whether a character at a particular position is a uppercase or lowercase letter, consonant or vowel, or a number between 0-9 or 1-9. This is something of a layman’s version of this second feature:
- a new reg_exp validation rule which lets you validate the contents of a form field based on a regular expression. This is really only intended for programmers already familiar with regular expressions.
In addition to these new additions, I updated the demo form to highlight the new features and improved the documentation on both the PHP and JS Validation scripts. Hopefully this will make the script a little more approachable and easier to understand.
Yesterday was my last day with CityXpress Corp. a software company here in Vancouver. After working at the same job for over two years it feels mighty strange to not go into work today – but… definitely time to move on! I’ve been wanting to devote more time to my freelance work for some time, and I have a dozen personal projects for which I could never find time. CityXpress was terrific – great work environment, great co-workers.
The next year should be interesting. I’m moving to Saskatchewan in August to be with my girlfriend while she finishes her last year of school; I’m paying a long overdue visit to the UK to visit family; I’ll be launching Open Translate (hopefully next month); I’ll be updating Form Tools for a zillion new features; I’ll be working on a new tool to help myself manage all this freelance work – a custom form and report builder.
In the short-term, I’ll be updating the PHP Validation script to match the latest JS validation and make a few small changes to the Flash Image Scroller.
Ah, freedom.
The CIA website really is sodding fascinating. Statistics are always fun to read. Here’s a couple that stand out:
- Canada is ranked 16 out of 163 countries,
- US is ranked dead-last.
To be perfectly honest, I’m not sure how these values are calculated… Naturally I’ve heard that the US was deeply in debt, but wow.
