They make your jump through one more hoop. For new phone lines you can’t get off the telemarketers list until AFTER the phone has been activated. At that point you have to call their privacy department at 310-1000 to get yourself removed. The unspoken rationale obviously being that few people can be bothered.

I know I’m being naive, but it’s still astonishing to me that a company gets away with treating their customers so badly.

The lady I spoke to didn’t give me the option to opt-out – I didn’t even notice until afterwards. I’m going to give them another call today and try to get off the list myself. Good luck to you too!

If you don’t sign-up online (e.g. by phone with Telus) you’re not given the option to opt-out of being contacted. We were never contacted by telemarketers when using Roger home phone in Vancouver. When we moved and had to change to Telus we immediately starting receiving junk calls. I’ll now be calling Telus to see if we can now be removed from their lists. Wish me luck.
