A brief update on the Data Generator rewrite, because my website has every appearance of nothing happening – and nothing could be further from the truth. Just not much to report in terms of concrete stuff completed.

It’s going pretty well, but admittedly slowly. I’ve been rethinking a great deal of the functionality, code organization and appearance which is necessitating an embarrassing number of re-writes. The overall code architecture is much improved over earlier versions, and right now I’m hammering out the nitty gritty details of communication between the different plugin types (Data Types, Export Types and Country-specific data). It’s almost there…

On a personal note, boy it’s nice working on a project where feature-creep isn’t such a bad thing. A stark contrast to my day job. :)

Oh, and I’ve enlisted the help of a friend, Kris Hooper, to provide a new design – which will be used for the website as well. It’s early days yet, but looking pretty snappy already. I asked him to review my latest design for the script and he – very constructively – tore it to shreds. Any pretensions I had to design have faded over the years… :)

I’m taking the next couple of weeks off work to go birding in Hawaii and work on the code, so expect a lot of check-ins. And boring bird pics.

There we go. Brief update complete! You can find the code here: https://github.com/benkeen/generatedata
